An exploration of the people and events that have become the story of the Christian community from the time it left the context of the first Jewish Christian community.
From the close of the apostolic age (A.D. 100), Western Church Father, St. Augustine of Hippo and the period before the Later Middle Ages and the Reformation (A. D. 1500’s). This course will also cover the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Empire; Ecclesiastical organization; and development of early and medieval theology; Trinitarian controversy; Christian life and worship, and the growth of power of the Papacy; the rise of development of monasticism, scholasticism and doctrinal controversies; Mysticism and the Mystics; popular piety and religious life; and demand for reform, which brought the Reformation.
